On these carved cabinets, isn't the carved area made of MDF? If it's MDF can it be used longterm on the porch of a covered patio?
Hi there,
Thanks for your question!
No, the carved areas are not MDF. All of our carved detailing done directly into solid wood ( mango or reclaimed hardwood depending on the piece). This is what gives the carvings their depth, crispness, and the natural grain you can feel along the edges, something pressed or routed MDF simply can't replicate.
Regarding covered patio use-- we want to be upfront with you that our furniture is designed and finished for indoor use only. Even on a covered porch, solid wood is exposed to humidity changes, temperature swings, and occasional moisture from wind driven rain. Over time, this can cause the finish to dull, the wood to develop hairline cracks, or the joinery to loosen. The carved panels are especially sensitive because the detaied cuts create more surface area for moisture to settle into.
But if you love this piece and your porch is fully enclosed and climate stable( no humidity, no rain exposure), it can work. But just to know that the lifespan will be shorter than the indoor use.
Happy to answer any other question!
Best,
Maadze Team.
